The Value of Employment

What is the value of work for you? If you are like most people, it means greater independence and wealth-building potential, self-esteem and personal satisfaction. It's the same for people with developmental disabilities and together with our provider partners, we are giving people with disabilities and their families a fresh look at what the future can hold for them.

Our goal is to give every working-age adult the opportunity to be employed alongside everyone else in our community. We start by looking at a person's interests, skills and abilities. We then help to develop those abilities so the person can become a valued employee at a traditional job in the community.

Our efforts to help people find meaningful work are supported through Ohio's Employment First initiative and Bridges to Transition.

Employment First is shifting expectations and making employment in the community the preferred outcome for working age adults in Ohio. That means we are giving everyone who wants to work the opportunity to explore their interests and career options and help them find jobs that match their skills and abilities.

Bridges to Transition, for students with disabilities ages 14-22, lets them explore career options and build their skills while they are still in school so they can be prepared for jobs when they graduate.

At the Belmont County Board of Developmental Disabilities, we know that people with disabilities have goals and ambitions and we are committed to helping them achieve what is important to them.
